Alanine

Alanine plays an important in the transfer of nitrogen from the peripheral tissue to the liver. Also aids in the Metabolism of glucose (simple carbohydrate the body uses for energy).
Also has the role of guarding against the buildup of toxic substances in the muscle cells when the muscle proteins are being broken down quickly in exercises. Epstein Barr virus and chronic fatigue have been linked to excessive alanine levels and low levels of tyrosine and phenylalanine.
Beta-alanine is a constituent of Vitamin B5 and coenzyme A (vital catalyst).
For those with insulin dependent diabetes it has been found that taking an oral dose of L-alanine can be highly effective in preventing nighttime hypoglycemia.
