Gamma-Ambinobutyric Acid
Gamma-Ambinobutyric acid acts as a neurotransmitter for the central nervous system. Essential in brain metabolism and proper brain function. GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is formed from another amino acid, glutamic acid, in the human body. One of it’s main functions is to decrease the neuron activity and inhibit nerve cells from over firing. Together GABA and niacinamide and inositol prevent anxiety and stress messages from reaching the motor centers of the human brain. They do this by occupying the receptor sites. This is why Gamma-aminobutyric acid has become a supplement commonly taken to calm the body, much like diazepam (Valium) and other tranquilizers, but without the fear of becoming addicted. May also be used for the treatment of epilepsy and hypertension.
Other benefits of gamma-aminobutyric acid include treating adhd, curbing cravings for alcohol, and an enlarged prostate. Some scientists have suggested that it can promote growth hormone production.
Over dosage of Gamma-aminobutyric acid however can lead to:
Shortness of breath
Numbness around the mouth
Increased anxiety
Tingling of the extremities
Abnormal levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid may be the cause of seizures in some patients
